Sciencia 2024 | Jaipuria Fest

23 August 2024: On the third day of the Jaipuria Fest, Sciencia, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Vineet Khand, Gomti Nagar, transformed into a cosmic hub as students ventured into the vastness of outer space, fully embracing this year’s theme, “Interstellar.” This student-led inter-school event saw participation from 27 schools, with 300 students taking part.
The day was a supernova of events, featuring everything from a treasure hunt that took participants on a wormhole journey to quizzes that tested their scientific mettle. Poster competitions showcased the creativity of students, while quiz contests and lively debates brought the mysteries of the universe into sharp focus. The day was truly a science-fiction odyssey, where every event was a big bang of creativity and knowledge.
Our Chief Guest of the event, Dr. C.M Nautiyal, Senior Scientist and Researcher, shared “I heard the gist of what the students discussed over these three days at this fest, and I’m very impressed. These are topics that even master’s students rarely engage with. It’s commendable that the students are so interested. I’m delighted that Jaipuria School provided them with this opportunity. I’m confident that these learnings will benefit them in countless ways throughout their future endeavors.”
Dr. Santosh Kumar Shah, Senior Scientist at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, remarked, “I am amazed at how hard the students have worked to organize this festival. The topics they are discussing today are truly remarkable and go far beyond their textbooks. I highly commend their curiosity in exploring such in-depth scientific subjects, such as Dark Matter, Time Travel, and Astrophysics.”
In the Tom De Investidores event, students pitched product ideas under the theme “Health Tech and Sustainable Energy.” The event showcased some of the most innovative and creative ideas. The winning pitch came from the students of Kunskapsskolan School, Lucknow, who presented a mental health app that allows users to track their mental well-being, including factors like happiness and anxiety levels. The app also offers an option to add family members or close ones so they can monitor the user’s mental well-being as well.
During Encenacao, students portrayed famous scientists such as Tessy Thomas, C.R. Rao, S. Visvesvaraya, Bimla Buti, Anna Mani, Kamala Sohonie, Prof. Charusita Chakravarty, Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar, and Archana Bhattacharya through monologues. They fully immersed themselves in their roles, dressing in costumes and delivering their lines with the same speech patterns and gestures as the scientists they represented.
Exploring the world of astrophysics, students engaged in debates during the event Debata Sessao, discussing whether Dark Matter’s existence is a scientific consensus or merely a prevailing theory. They explored the implications of dark matter in our understanding of the universe, highlighting its significance in current astrophysical research.
Design De Posters featured vibrant, visually stunning creations that were a treat for the eyes. Students unleashed their creativity, going beyond imagination to depict space travel, black holes, and life on distant planets.
In the event Explicacao Possivel, students delved into the “what if??” and explored possibilities beyond human imagination. They presented hypotheses on topics ranging from humanity’s expansion across the universe to the wonders of time travel and future technological advancements. They shared their views on subjects such as “What if we could perceive more than three spatial dimensions?”, “What if cloning technology allowed you to create a ‘shadow self,’ an identical twin that would experience life in parallel yet with different outcomes?”, and “What if we discovered that advanced alien civilizations were actually future versions of humans, traveling back to witness their own origins?” Each participant delivered a two-minute speech, prepared in under ten minutes, offering their unique insights on these speculative scenarios.
The most anticipated part of the prize distribution ceremony. The winners were felicitated by our Chief Guest, Dr. C.M Nautiyal, Senior Scientist, and Dr Santosh Kumar Shah, Senior Scientist, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Principal Mrs. Promini Chopra Ma’am, along with School Heads. Seth M.R. Jaipuria, Goel Campus, took the winning, first prize, while La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, secured the second prize.
