At Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Gomti Nagar, we firmly believe that every child matters. Through our Samarpan –SMRJ Centre for Care, Counselling and Special Education, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every learner feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
As part of our parent awareness initiative, J-Samvaad, an informative session was conducted on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016 and the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card. The session aimed to help parents understand the rights, benefits, and support systems available for children with disabilities.
Understanding the RPWD Act, 2016
The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016 is a landmark legislation that promotes equality, dignity, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. The Act recognizes 21 categories of disabilities and ensures access to education, healthcare, employment, and social participation without discrimination.
The Act reinforces the belief that every child deserves equal opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society. It encourages schools, families, and communities to work together in building a culture of acceptance and inclusion.
What is a UDID Card?
The Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card is an official government-issued identification card for persons with disabilities. It serves as a single document that enables individuals to access various government benefits, services, and welfare schemes without repeated paperwork and documentation.
The UDID initiative simplifies the process of availing support and promotes transparency, accessibility, and convenience for families.
Benefits for Children and Families
Children with disabilities can access several forms of support through the UDID card, including:
- Educational assistance and scholarships
- Examination accommodations and support services
- Therapy and rehabilitation facilities
- Travel concessions
- Government welfare schemes and financial assistance
- Improved access to healthcare and disability-related services
These provisions help ensure that children receive the resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Inclusive Support at School
At Jaipuria, inclusion is not merely a policy—it is a commitment. Through the Samarpan Team, students receive individualized support based on their unique strengths and needs. Our inclusive practices include:
- Early identification and intervention
- Guidance from special educators and counsellors
- Classroom accommodations and modifications
- Examination support and reasonable accommodations
- Collaboration with parents and professionals
- A nurturing environment that celebrates diversity and individual potential
Our focus remains on recognizing abilities rather than limitations and ensuring that every child experiences a sense of belonging.
A Message to Parents
Seeking support for a child is a sign of strength, awareness, and love. Early intervention and timely guidance can make a significant difference in a child’s developmental journey. Parents are encouraged to access available resources and work collaboratively with educators and professionals to support their child’s growth.
Together, we can create a future where every child is understood, accepted, and empowered to succeed.
At Jaipuria, we believe that inclusion begins with understanding, grows through acceptance, and flourishes through collective action.
