Rashtriya Ekta Diwas: Celebrating the Spirit of Oneness

The assembly of Seth M. R. Jaipuria School spiritedly observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or the National Unity Day, on 31 October 2026. The Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, who brought together the 560 princely states of India and forged a cohesive national identity for the country. With his selfless service and dedication, Patel gave concrete shape to the realisation of the familiar Indian ideal of ‘Unity in Diversity’, enabling the celebration of difference through a spirit of oneness.

The School assembly paid a rich tribute to the legacy of Patel, with the four Houses presenting a variety of events, all of which thoughtfully engaged with the remarkable life of the visionary national leader. The House of Wisdom presented a quiz based on Patel, which saw enthusiastic participation from the students. The House of Harmony presented an evocative poem which, in essence, celebrated the beauty encapsulated in the motto ‘Unity in Diversity’. The House of Strength engaged the audience with a group discussion on the importance of respecting diverse perspectives. The House of Perfection enacted a compelling skit on the historic integration of the princely states. In addition, the Junior School, too, presented a powerful skit that depicted Patel’s resolve to heed the call of the higher purpose of serving the nation.

The Principal, Ms. Promini Chopra, delivered an inspiring address, reflecting on Patel’s poignant observation: ‘Manpower without unity is not a strength unless it is harmonised and united properly, then it becomes a spiritual power’. She encouraged the students to follow the example of Patel by dedicating themselves to the service of a common purpose. Beyond merely honouring the past, the Principal also engaged with the question of how Patel’s life and ideals could hold relevance in the present, for instance, in the communal life of the School. Addressing the traffic problem on the School road in the morning, she urged the students to consider carpooling to reduce traffic congestion. Through her address, the Principal demonstrated that adopting such simple and meaningful practical changes would enable students to emulate Patel’s example in real-life situations by putting social welfare above personal convenience.

In addition to remembering the contributions of a great national leader with gratitude, the assembly also considered the ways in which the ideal of serving a common purpose could be carried forward into the future. The various presentations underscored the importance of not merely accepting difference, but of actively embracing diversity and heterogeneity.
