Creating Safe Conversations: Menarche Awareness Session by KGMU Doctors at Jaipuria

In an effort to promote health awareness among students and parents, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School hosted a Menarche Awareness Session on Saturday, 4th April 2026, in association with the Women Empowerment Cell of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.

The session was led by an esteemed panel of doctors:
Dr. Smriti Agarwal (MBBS, PGI Chandigarh, DNB), Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, KGMU
Prof. Rameshwari Singhal, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, KGMU
Prof. Amita Pandey, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, KGMU
Prof. Puneeta Manik, Department of Anatomy, KGMU

Girl students from Grades 5 to 7 attended the session along with their mothers. The programme was held at JIM Auditorium.

The session began with Dr. Smriti Agarwal presenting an insightful PowerPoint presentation on adolescent health. She spoke about the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet, maintaining proper hygiene, and the role of good sleep during the menstrual cycle.

The session also highlighted how poor hygiene can lead to health complications, clarified common misconceptions, and introduced students to conditions such as PCOS. Students were also advised to avoid unnecessary use of painkillers and were informed that an average woman experiences around 400 menstrual cycles in her lifetime.

An engaging open Q&A session followed, where students and parents interacted openly with the doctors.
