Honouring the Harvest: The Spirit of Lohri at Seth M. R. Jaipuria School

On 13th January, our teachers and school staff gathered together at the back field of Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, to celebrate the vibrant festival of Lohri, a joyous occasion marking the end of winter and the harvest of rabi crops. The festival became a celebration of warmth, gratitude, and abundance in our school.

The celebration began with heartfelt exchanges of warm hugs, smiles, and wishes for happiness and prosperity. The Lohri Poojan, a sacred ritual central to the festivities, was gracefully led by our esteemed Principal, Mrs. Promini Chopra Ma’am. In a profound moment of spirituality, each member present offered prayers to the sacred fire, their hearts brimming with hope and gratitude as they sought blessings for a fruitful future. A special prayer of gratitude was also offered to our planet, honouring its tireless nurturing and the countless gifts it bestows upon us—a reminder of our responsibility to care for and protect our Earth.

“प्रृथवीप्रदाया ये नमःतु सुखामीम्।” (Prithvi-pradaya ye namah sukhameem)

“We bow to the Earth, the provider of all happiness and nourishment.”

As the flames danced high, everyone gathered in a circle and swayed to traditional songs like ‘Sundar Mundariye,’ ‘Aaj Toh Lohri Hai,’ and more. The rhythmic clapping and joyful chants filled the air, creating an blissful atmosphere.

No Lohri celebration is complete without its delightful culinary offerings, and this day was no exception. Traditional treats like revdi, peanuts, and popcorn were savoured with delight, complemented by the warmth of piping hot samosas. These flavours not only tantalised the taste buds but also served as a reminder of the simple joys that bring people together. As the evening came to a close, the flames of Lohri continued to burn in every heart, a symbol of warmth, unity, and the promise of new beginnings.
