Colonel Prashant Thakur’s Triumph: Seth M.R. Jaipuria School Alumnus Revolutionizes Air Defence System.

Colonel Prashant Thakur finished schooling from Seth M.R. Jaipuria in 2001, joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in 2002, and was commissioned into the Army Air Defence in 2006. Initially discouraged from joining the army due to his academic excellence in school, Prashant chose to serve the nation. He emphasised the importance of making a difference in the world, stating, “When you can make a good change, act on it.” Prashant believes that in the era of rapidly evolving technology, adaptation is important, and the army defence system needs to catch up. Recognising AI’s potential, he advocated modern technology of artificial intelligence into air defence operations for enhanced security.

Colonel Prashant Thakur, a 2006 Indian Army Commissionee and an alumnus of Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Lucknow, has developed Next Generation Aircraft Recognition for Bharat by Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (NABHAI). This innovative technology addresses aircraft misidentification challenges. Aircraft misidentification has led to devastating friendly fire incidents worldwide, resulting in significant losses. Colonel Thakur’s NABHAI system helps recognise aircraft, distinguishing friend from foe, within 6-8 seconds of being notified in the radar system with 80% accuracy.

On 8th December, 2024, the Times of India also highlighted Prashant’s remarkable development, where he emphasises the need for global AI adoption to prevent future devastating consequences, such as financial losses and lives lost in friendly fire worldwide and in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. As a patriot, humanist, and advocate for global welfare, Prashant also embodies Jaipuria’s values of compassion and social responsibility.

Colonel Prashant Thakur has had a distinguished military career, earning several prestigious awards and opportunities. In 2011, he was honoured with the Sena Medal, Gallantry Awards, recognising his exceptional bravery in neutralising a Pakistani-based terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to his operations in India, Colonel Thakur has contributed to international peacekeeping efforts. In 2016, he was deployed as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. His expertise and leadership extend beyond the battlefield; Colonel Thakur was also entrusted with the responsibility of training the Kazakhstan Army.

Prashant urges inspiring more young minds to join the armed forces. “It’s a beautiful service,” he says. “For those who want to challenge themselves, the Army is a wonderful force to join where daily challenges and human emotions create a rollercoaster ride of growth and self-discovery.” Prashant’s passion inspires the next generation to serve with pride and purpose. He expresses how his heart swells with pride when commanding men in operations, witnessing courage and resilience.

Colonel Prashant Thakur’s remarkable journey is a testament to Jaipuria School’s transformative impact. Jaipuria proudly claims Colonel Prashant Thakur as one of its own. We honour his legacy and wish the divine in him continues to bless him with guidance and success, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to global growth.
