These are testing times for us all; none of us know what future has in store for us but that’s how God has designed our lives to begin with. This reminds me of a song which was taught to us in school, ‘Que Sera Sera……..whatever will be…..future isn’t ours to see’. While we all know this as a fact, we still tend to challenge it. Our task at hand should be to play our roles in best possible manner and detach ourselves from the outcome. We belong to the land of Shri Bhagwad Geeta and the time to live it is NOW.
I wish to comment on one particular sentence which I am hearing very often these days ‘I am bored’. People don’t get bored but they are afraid to look within. Truth be told, people are scared to live in their own company! They say that many thoughts cross their mind when they are alone and that’s not something they want. But, life is a boomerang; you get back what you give. Thoughts which cross our minds are either our acts from our past or the outcomes of those acts done. We feed them. What we think is totally in our hands. Our fears are companions that never leave us alone. We want to run away from them but that is in vain.
There is so much clutter in the mind that the noise which it makes when we are alone is far from permissible decibels for the ears; and it feels as if we are losing our sense of hearing altogether. We refuse to accept this; we seek refuge in extrinsic sources. But until and unless we make peace with ourselves, this will continue. You can’t run away from yourself no matter how occupied or free you are. A time like this, when we are sitting at home, gives us opportunity to introspect, to peek within.
Our mind is like a closet that needs periodic cleaning. Drawer after drawer things needed to rearranged and shuffled, but most importantly, some need to be discarded. Begin by clearing something that is most dreaded and least needed. Analysis without prejudice can help you clean out closet’s worth of inconsequential words, actions and memories. By not judging and taking onus of your mistakes and behavior and most importantly forgiving those that caused you pain, you will shed oodles and oodles of superfluous baggage. Sorting is another important aspect of closet-cleaning yourself. Sort happy and sad memories; be courageous enough to begin with this task. Open the drawer of memories that has you wounded; apply the right medicine and it will surely heal.
You are your best companion. God has already given us this facility. You stomach is full, you have a roof over your head and a warm bed to sleep at night and yet, you remain unsatisfied. Try and find out the source of this unhappiness. Pull out the drawer that is over-flowing with that what is not needed and get to work.
God didn’t tell us the future for he wanted our hopes to be alive. So do the needful, de-clutter your mind, make peace with yourself, do what you can do to the best of your ability and leave the rest to God.
Know this that This Too Shall Pass.
