Junior Annual Sports Meet: A Conscious Joy of Being Active Together

There was a cheerful bustle around the front field of Seth M.R. Jaipuria, the space that set the scene for Junior Founders’ Day and the two-day Junior School 6th Annual Athletic Meet. The field pulsed with cheers, house colour, and the kind of open-hearted excitement only young athletes can bring.

Day One unfolded with Grades 2 and 4 in action.

Grade 4 opened the meet with their 100-metre races for boys and girls, followed by focused long-jump attempts that scattered neat arcs of sand across the pit. Grade 2 brought in a bright burst of fun with their imaginative races. Dressing Up for School, The Great Muffin Run, Hula Hoop Race, Tunnel Relay, Balloon Sandwich Run, Balance the Ball, and the Power Puff Cup Race filled the field with laughter and small moments of triumph. Their 50-metre and 100-metre sprints carried the same energy—quick, determined, and wildly cheered.

Grade 4 returned with fun races that mixed strategy with comedy: Backward Walking, Shoulder-to-Shoulder, Feed the Basket, Lemon Spoon, Hurdle and Ball Carry, Ball Dribble, and Balancing the Book. Each event kept the field alive and teachers on their toes.

Day Two began on a high note with the inter-house basketball match between Harmony and Perfection.

The game was fast, loud, and full of sharp plays until Perfection House seized the victory, setting the tone for the day.

From there, Grades 1 and 3 stepped onto the track.

Grade 3 opened with their boys’ and girls’ 100-metre races and moved straight into their long jump. Grade 1 turned the field playful with Pizza Delivery, Zig-Zag Cone Race, Silly Step Race, Balloon Sandwich Run, Cap Swap, Balancing the Stick, and the beloved Lemon and Spoon. Their 50-metre and 100-metre races brought tiny legs and big determination to the centre of attention.

Grade 3 wrapped their segment with fun races that were equal parts quirky and competitive: Three-Legged Race, Animals Walk Race, Ready Set Dress, Newspaper Relay, Sack Race, Balancing the Ball, and the Obstacle Race.

The emcee on both days were Saghiya Najm ma’am and Shruti ma’am, who kept the meet flowing smoothly and spiritedly.

Behind them, a meticulous group of teachers—Shalini Williams ma’am, Vinita Rawat ma’am, Jyoti Misra ma’am, Ranjeeta Batra ma’am, Kavishi ma’am, Puspalata ma’am, Meenu Seiv ma’am, Sandhya ma’am, Jasneet Mak ma’am, and Poonnam Kackker ma’am—handled the scores, certificates, tally sheets, and winner lists, ensuring accuracy through every event.

Across both days, Grades 5 and 6 anchored the competitive core of the meet with their 100m, 200m, 400m races, long jump, high jump, and the much-anticipated house relays.

When the relay scores settled, the houses stood as:

Wisdom – 29

Harmony – 33

Perfection – 51

Strength – 64

Strength House lifted the overall trophy, and the moment their win was announced, the entire field erupted into a wave of blue, their house colour. Students ran forward in celebration and took a triumphant victory lap with the trophy held high.

The D-Division champions added another proud moment: Vibhor Singh Rathore (Class 6) and Aaradhya Yadav (Class 5) were declared winners and took their own victory lap amid applause.

The sports team remained vigilant throughout the event—guiding participants, recording results, coordinating transitions, and quietly motivating students to give their best.

Across the field, students sat in groups, cheering for their classmates through every lap, stumble, surprise finish, and well-earned win. Their voices rose and blended into a sound that carried the spirit of the meet.

In the middle of all the giggles, Pushpalata ma’am summed up the spirit of the day perfectly.

“Junior Sports Day is never just about the competition. It’s about seeing these happy faces, laughing, giggling, working together. During the balloon balancing race, two students dropped their balloon and had to start again. But instead of getting upset, they simply held hands, ran back laughing, and finished the race together. Watching that, you realise it’s not about who wins or loses. It’s about being physically active, staying conscious of the joy in the moment, and learning how to move forward together.”

As the ceremony drew to its close, Principal Promini Chopra ma’am felicitated the winners alongside teachers and school heads. When Strength House was announced as the overall champion, the blue wave swept across the field once more, loud and jubilant.

Teachers wrapped up the day with their own set of light-hearted races, back-walk races, relays, and other friendly sprints, smiling their way into prizes and applause.

Finally, Promini Chopra ma’am expressed her gratitude to the sports department and the teaching faculty, while applauding the students for their spirited performances across both days of the Junior Annual Sports Meet.
