A thoughtful session exploring the deeper dimensions of the self was conducted by Mrs. Anjali Jaipuria at Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Vineet Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, on 16 March 2026. The discussion, which was attended by Junior School teachers, centred on understanding the concepts of the Psychic Entity (Atman) and the Psychic Being (Chaitya Purush) in the light of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
Mrs. Anjali Jaipuria Ma’am began the session by inviting the audience to pause and reflect on a question often overlooked in discussions about national growth. While India proudly celebrates its youth as a demographic advantage, she pointed out that the real concern is whether the youth are truly well. As she observed, “We proudly say that Bharat has a great demographic dividend and that our youth will become the engine of our growth. But I want to pause and ask a simple question. Are our youth truly well? A demographic dividend pays only when the demographic itself is well, and this is something we do not talk about enough.”
Referring to concerns about mental and emotional well-being, Mrs. Jaipuria Ma’am explained that the deeper challenge lies in losing touch with the inner self. “What is missing,” she noted, “is the connection with our inmost self. We are searching for joy outside, while the real source of joy is seated deep within ourselves.”
Drawing from the Bhagavad Gita, she spoke about the distinction between the lower and higher nature of human existence. While most people remain connected only to the surface personality, she said that a deeper consciousness exists within each individual. “The Gita speaks of Apara Prakriti and Para Prakriti. Most of us are connected only to our lower nature, our surface self. But within us lies a higher self, and true wellness begins when we turn our gaze inward and become aware of that deeper presence.”
The discussion also touched upon Sri Aurobindo’s evolutionary vision, which views humanity as a stage in a continuing journey of consciousness. Quoting his words, she said, “Man is a transitional being. He is not final. For in him and high beyond him ascend the radiant degrees which climb to a divine supermanhood.” She explained that just as the ape gradually evolved into the human being, humanity too stands at a point where further evolution is possible through conscious effort.
Mrs. Jaipuria Ma’am then clarified the difference between the Psychic Entity and the Psychic Being. The psychic entity, she explained, is the eternal soul within, while the psychic being develops gradually around it through life experiences. Describing the nature of the soul, she said, “The soul silently witnesses. It sends very soft intimations, very gentle whispers. But it depends on us whether we choose to hear those whispers or whether we silence them through ego, desire and habit.”
Using a simple analogy, she compared the soul to a king who has stepped aside while the ministers of the kingdom, the body, emotions and mind, begin to run things on their own terms. “The king does not force himself back,” she explained. “He waits to be invited again to his rightful place. Similarly, the soul waits patiently until we consciously choose to reconnect with it.”
Throughout the session, she emphasised that transformation does not require withdrawing from everyday life. Rather, ordinary work itself can become a path of inner growth when done consciously. “We do not have to change the work,” she said. “The same work can be done consciously, everything as an offering and as an invitation to the Divine.”
She also explained that strengthening the psychic being allows the guidance of the soul to express itself more clearly through our thoughts and actions. “When we choose what is good, what is true, what is beautiful, the psychic influence becomes stronger. Gradually the psychic personality begins to shine through our thoughts, our words and our actions.”
Towards the end of the session, Anjali Ma’am reflected on the deeper purpose of human life and the role of the soul in guiding that journey. As she concluded, “The soul’s mission is to make us the true being. Our body, our emotions and our mind have to be transformed so that they become instruments of the Divine presence within us.”
The session ended with a quiet moment of reflection, inviting participants to turn inward and connect with the luminous presence within. Echoing the words of The Mother, Ma’am reminded the audience, “To find one’s soul is to find God, and to identify with one’s soul is to unite with the Divine.”
