Every year on the last day of school before Diwali Holiday begins, as twilight settles over Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, the campus begins to glow, not from electric lights, but from hundreds of flickering diyas. The deeply rooted tradition of Deep-Utsav, brings together the entire Jaipuria family, students, alumni, teachers, and the ever-smiling sports staff who line up the equipment for its puja.
The basketball court turns into a sea of light. Alumni, dressed in vibrant kurtas, return home, to the school that shaped them. Together with the current students, they kneel to light the diyas that outline the field. Flower petals, marigolds, and the earthy smell of ghee lamps fill the air. The school fills with chatter, laughter, and that unmistakable feeling of belonging.
Even the cricket bats and hockeys seem to bask in the glow as everyone performs the ritual puja. Our Principal Promini Chopra ma’am also join in the celebrations standing alongside the students. She reminded students and alumnia, how every diya, every act of gratitude, connects back to the school’s core philosophy of Conscious Transformation.
As one alumnus beautifully shared, ‘Deepotsav is something I look forward to every year. Coming back to school, seeking blessings from Principal Ma’am and all my teachers, it is a Diwali ritual I can’t miss. The school’s philosophy of Conscious Transformation continues to guide me long after passing out. Even in situations at work, I find myself pausing, reflecting inward, and trying to see things from the other person’s perspective before acting upon it.”
