At Seth M.R. Jaipuria, the spirit of innovation and a thirst for knowledge are ingrained in the essence of our students. To further fuel this passion for learning in our senior students, we invited two distinguished scientists Prof Dr. S K Bhattacharya and Dr. C.M Nautiyal for enlightening sessions.
First Dr. S.K Bhattacharya came on stage to talk on the topic: Wonders of nature that show the past. In this session, he shed light on topics of meteorites, Fossil woods, Isotopes, and remains from the Dinosaur period.
Dr. Bhattacharya’s ground-breaking research endeavors, including the study of triple isotope systems of oxygen in chemical cement and the investigation of ancient ocean conditions, have garnered international acclaim, making him an expert in his field.
Sir gave an in-depth explanation of the petrification process, whereby organic matter is replaced by silica deposits, highlighting the role of fortuitous geological circumstances in preserving these invaluable relics of Earth’s past.
Samples of petrified wood and dinosaur excreta were distributed among the students, this gave students the chance to observe it in real life. In addition to petrified wood and dinosaur excreta, Dr. Bhattacharya shared samples of ancient sea fossils, including whale teeth and specimens from the Gugamal National Fossil Park in India. These fossils, remnants of prehistoric marine life, provide valuable clues about past environments and evolutionary processes, further enriching our understanding of Earth’s history.

After this enchanting session, Dr. C.M Nautiyal sir took over the stage to give a talk on the topic: Climate Change and Energy. In his address, Dr. Nautiyal delved into the critical topic of climate change and energy, drawing on his extensive expertise and research background. He highlighted the interconnectedness between human activities, such as industrialization and agricultural practices, and the resulting impact on Earth’s climate. Through compelling examples and scientific insights, Dr. Nautiyal underscored the urgency of addressing climate change and its far-reaching consequences.
He elucidated the greenhouse effect, explaining how human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, contribute to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to global warming. Dr. Nautiyal emphasized the role of anthropogenic factors in exacerbating climate change, contrasting natural climate variations with human-induced changes.
Addressing the students, Dr. Nautiyal urged collective action to mitigate climate change, emphasizing the importance of transitioning to renewable energy sources and adopting sustainable practices. He emphasized the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and informed decision-making to address the complex challenges posed by climate change.
