Donation Drive for Jayati Bharatam by Social Awareness Club

The Social Awareness Club of Seth M.R. Jaipuria School came forward with yet another venture of going beyond the school premises for a noble cause and working for the greater good.

A donation drive was conducted on 7th September, 2022 for Jayati Bharatam, a school for deaf and blind children, started and managed by Mrs. Renu Agnihotri. Resolute and determined to bring about a change in the world, she established a wonderful institution for children and adults suffering from visual and hearing impairments and acquainted them with the joy of knowledge.

The donation drive was only possible because of the combined efforts of the students of the school. Children from classes 3 to 12 donated clothes, pencil boxes, bags, bottles, and food items generously. A team of students from the club arranged everything meticulously, making sure that the children received the donated items in their proper condition. Mrs. Shweta Jaitley and Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur were the teachers guiding, motivating, and supporting the students at every step.

The group of 17 students who went for the donation drive, observed that the school was clean and well maintained. The impaired children, mostly from rural areas, were eager to interact with the students of our school. The sight of the 35 deaf and blind children and adults raising their hands and shaking them in the air as a gesture to exhibit their happiness was indeed overwhelming. Despite their impairment, the residents of Jayati Bharatam had learned how to adapt to life and were skilled in a lot of activities.

The students sang songs for them, and learned some sign language, which included all the letters of the alphabet, ‘thank you’ and ‘welcome’. One of the residents, who was skilled in the art of applying mehendi, made beautiful designs on the hands of the students while they interacted with everyone. Sanskrit shlokas were recited and explained by our students, and after some time, they bid farewell to their new friends, promising to return to spend more time with them and also donate to their well being.

It was a day of selflessness, compassion and unconditional love for the children. Our young Jaipurians understood the meaning of making a change in the lives of people. The efforts of Mrs. Renu Agnihotri and her staff are indeed praiseworthy for taking care of the children with such sensitivity and affection and educating them so that they can have a better future. The calmness with which the children live their lives and continue with their day-to-day activities and their studies is awe-inspiring, bringing along with it a feeling of gratitude for the things we are blessed with in our lives.

“ जीवन में कुछ करना है तो मन को मारे मत बैठो,
आगे आगे बढ़ना है तो हिम्मत हारे मत बैठो I ”

These lines recited by the children of Jayati Bharatam shall continue to inspire our students.
