Seth M.R. Jaipuria School played host to Shri Shakir Khan ji, one of the most promising young exponent as a sitarist and surbaharist, of the legendary Etawah Gharana, on 6th August 2018.SPIC MACAY, The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage.Seth. M.R. Jaipuria has been a pioneer to give a platform to these accomplished artists, these renowned performers to interact with the student community. Jaipuria school from the past many many years has been inviting great personalities on the school campus.
Students of class 8 were enraptured by the artist who played the Raag Yaman. Shri Shakir ji was accompanied by Shri Hafiz Ahmed Khan ji on the tabla. The synchronization of the sur (melody) of the sitar with the laya (rhythm) of the tabla of the two artists left the students mesmerized. Shri Shakir Ji has won international acclaim in the field of fusion projects like the European Jazz ensemble called ‘Taalism’, in Germany and ‘Human Evolution in Spain.The students were in awe to the treasure who is highly talented repository of the one of the world’s oldest and greatest classical traditions.
