LORDS OF THE MUN
Jaipuria Model United Nations 2016
JMUN was an idea conceived by eight students on a flight back to Lucknow, over four years ago. Since then we have never looked back. School alumni, to name a few, Aditya Agarwal, Aditya Waklu, Ananya Mishra, Akshada Mishra, Tanay Chaudhary and Shubhang Chaturvedi, were the ones who graciously agreed be a part of the conference and diligently guided their junior counterparts throughout the course of the conference.
Seth M.R. Jaipuria School hosted the fourth edition of its annual Model United Nations Conference from the 26th of May to the 28th of May, 2016. The three days conference, which hosted Fifteen local schools and six outstation schools, was a successful event.
The Opening Ceremony on the first day of the conference was inspiring and motivating. Secretary General Tataghat Bhatia gave his inaugural speech and introduced to the delegates the motive and purpose of JMUN 2016. A documentary film reflecting upon the satanic consequences of War , prepared by the Tech Team under kanishk Singh was shown. The lighting of the lamp was done by Vice Principal Dr. Anupam Vidyarthi , MUN Co-ordinator Dr. Preeti Singh, and teachers from the participating schools. With enthralling classical dance and orchestra performances, the students from the host school, showcased their talents. The conference was declared open by Secretary General, Tathagat Bhatia and henceforth scurried off the delegates in the hope of a glorious Munning experience, vowing silently to ‘deceive, defend and deliver’. Thus began a journey undertaken by four hundred enthusiastic students.
The second day saw the enthralling six committees dealing with world issues along with enough crises to keep them on their toes. The Indian Parliament with both dynamic and comic personalities discussed judicial appointments and the good, bad and the ugly of the National Judiciary Appointment Commission. The General Assembly and the Security Council battled over post conflict reconstruction and peace building consecutively. The Historic Security Council tried to prevent the Balkan crisis of 1992. The Human Rights Council discussed the socio-economic considerations and at the same time the moral obligations involved with the refugees and the internally displaced people. The United States National Security Council delegates used their powers to make or break the President of the United States. Last but not the least the S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers discussed their super-powers and the collateral damage hence caused. The workings of the busy day were followed by the evening Socials held at the school auditorium as a getaway for the delegates from the heated arguments of the day.
The last day of the enriching conference concluded with the Closing Ceremony which started with two videos showcasing details and snapshots of the happening of three days of the conference were shown. In her speech, the school Principal Mrs. Promini Chopra dwelled over the fact that the conference became a medium of not just learning but empowering young individuals towards global issues and making them aware about matters of importance. The Principal awarded the winners with trophies, certificates and commendations. The Best Delegation was won by La Martiniere College, Lucknow. The Deputy Secretary General Nihal Tandon declared the JMUN 2016 closed. And, thus the efforts of the faculty and the months of preparations by both students and the teachers of the History department which includes: Mrs. Preeti Jha, Mrs. Rupali Joshi, Mrs.Shweta Jaitely and Mrs. Nasima Rizwan under the able guidance of the MUN Co-ordinator Dr.Preeti Singh, culminated into a successful endeavour. The Executive Board and the Logistics Team need to be applauded for their hard work and commitment towards making the conference a feat in itself.
