Aim of Life Youth Camp | Organised by Auroyouth

“Do not aim at success. Our aim is perfection.

Remember you are on the threshold of a new world, participating in its birth and instrumental in its creation. There is nothing more important than the transformation. There is no interest more worthwhile.” – The Mother

On March 6th and 7th, 2024, AuroYouth, the youth wing of Sri Aurobindo Society organized a camp “Aim of Life,” at Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, which saw the participation of students from classes 9 and 11.  We are the School of Conscious Transformation, and this camp allowed students to become conscious of their inner friend, the soul. Over two enriching days, the camp coordinators, Palak and Rahul, guided the students and few teachers to reflect upon their life and depict the effects of certain significant events on their physical, mental and vital beings.

On the first day we commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by our Principal, Promini Chopra, along with teachers and camp coordinators Palak and Rahul.

Following this, Palak and Rahul introduced each other, setting a welcoming tone for the day.

An ice-breaking activity ensued, wherein students were divided into groups of 10. Within these groups, students engaged in learning about each other, sharing names, favourite foods, and unique traits. Subsequently, representatives from each group shared these insights with the larger group, highlighting the collective identity forged within each group.

The day continued with a session titled “Source of Happiness,” wherein students were asked to sit with their eyes closed and hands stretched out. Each one was given a piece of chocolate and asked to feel it using their hands, smell it, and then taste it. Students shared the different emotions they felt throughout the activity, and each emotion or feeling was written on the board. And then they reflected upon the source of these emotions and feelings.

In the “River of Life” activity, students were encouraged to contemplate on the effects of certain significant events during their life on their physical, vital and mental beings.

Before indulging in the session “Aim of Life,” students played some fun games. During this session, they explored questions such as “What is my aim based on my highest ideal?”

During the session on “Exploring Love,” students delved into the various dimensions of love, by focusing on four rungs of love. Later in the last session, “Introduction to an inner friend”, students relaxed, by lying down, quietly, scanning their body, their muscles and the emotions they go through. Later they shared their experience with the group and this is how the first day of the camp ended.

On the second day of the “Aim of Life” camp, students went deeper to understand that they could come out of their fear and develop their senses by becoming closer to their inner friend, the soul.

The morning session focused on the practice of stillness, aimed at enhancing concentration and overcoming negative emotions, followed by a session at the front field, where they did reflective journaling, allowing them to delve deeper into their inner realms.

Following this, students watched “Sri Aurobindo: A New Dawn,” a film that encapsulates the essence of Sri Aurobindo’s vision. Rahul sir shared insights into the inception of the film, prompting students to reflect on its message.

The theme of life’s purpose was revisited, as students were divided into groups to reconsider and articulate their aims.

The afternoon session delved into the theme of fear and courage, utilizing movie clips and quotes to elucidate the distinction between the two. An outdoor trust and fear activity challenged students to confront their fears and trust in their abilities, guided by teachers along a carefully planned route.

As the day progressed, participants reconvened for moments of reflection and sharing, facilitated by Palak and Rahul in separate groups.

The significance of birthdays and the introduction to “A Student’s Companion” further enriched the day’s proceedings, focusing on the importance of spiritual growth and self-awareness.

The day concluded with feedback sessions, allowing both students and teachers to provide valuable insights. As the camp drew to a close, participants departed with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their spiritual journey ahead.

Students expressed their gratitude to Rahul sir and Palak ma’am, for illuminating their path towards righteousness and guiding them to discover inner peace.

Through a blend of introspection, dialogue, and experiential learning, the “Aim of Life” camp empowered students to embark on a journey of self-discovery, guided by the timeless wisdom of Sri Aurobindo and Mother.
